The History of The Low Arts

In Dec of 2007, Paul S and Ganewsc of the Portland band Straightedge Buddhist Strippers teamed up with bassist Scott Dopierala, formerly of The Carrier Signal. The new project, under the name The Low Arts, immediately went to work crafting nearly a dozen high energy, melodic songs. Of course some of those were just Replacements covers in preparation for our not-so debut performance during a Replacements tribute show. More on that later.

We settled on five original tunes to focus on and the others were put on the back burner. The band played on . . .

In January '08, The Low Arts added guitarist Dave Krough, formerly of the band Lords of Borthwick. Their first show was headlining a tribute to The Replacements night where the band debuted with a set of originals mixed with Mats covers. It was rough and raw and we were paid in beer.

February saw The Low Arts entering bassist Scott Dopierala's recording studio, The Carrier Signal. The result was "Lincoln St.", a 5 song e.p. the band released in April. However the official release date was May 9th while opening for The Action Design. Plans are already in place for a follow up e.p. or album after a very busy April - May of live shows. The new material is much more of a collaborative effort between all members of the band.
